On September
11, 2002 the emergency service agencies gathered at the Rotterdam District 2 Firehouse
to commemorate the one year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our nation.
The focus of the memorial service was on the fallen police, fire and EMS personnel
of New York City. Present were members of the Rotterdam Police Department, Rotterdam Ambulance, White Eagle Ambulance, Rotterdam Junction Fire Department, Carman Fire Department, Pattersonville Fire Department, South Schenectady Fire Department, Schonowe Fire Department and Plotterkill Fire Department as well as the Rotterdam Town Council, and members of the Schenectady County Fire Coodinators Office and Rotterdam Public Safety Dispatchers. While many in the Rotterdam emergency services community have certainly grieved and reflected in their own private way, they have also come together in many special ways to help the fallen members of the service in New York City. The memorial service culminated a year of numerous remembrance services throughout the town as well as fundraisers for families of the fallen . This service was not only a way of honoring those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty but was also a way of helping ourselves to heal, by coming together as a group to share our feelings and emotions. Following the service Mallozzi's Restaurant of Rotterdam hosted a brunch for those agencies that attended. It was an opportunity for many to share our thoughts of the day and our memories of a year ago. Many thanks to Mr. John Mallozzi for providing this opportunity to us. May we never have to gather under these circustances again. May God Bless the firefighter where ever they may be. | ||
